Utilizing neuromuscular force recording as a novel proxy for functional assessments of brain or peripheral nerve stimulation in a mouse model

Abstract Mice are excellent model organisms to study human diseases as a handful of genetic tools available manipulate their genome simulate most diseases. Since the mice is similar that humans (only less than 10 among approximately 4,000 genes studied different), can be used tool molecular pathogenesis and develop novel therapeutic interventions. Although mouse models have been in developing brain peripheral nerve stimulation modalities, functional assessments very difficult carry out due size animal. Artifacts generated through any intervention often contaminate recordings evoked electromyogram (EMG), common index quantify results or experiments. This because small enables signals travel easily from target sites EMG electrodes. To eliminate this issue, we designed 3D printable fixation frame integrates pair miniaturized force sensors, allowing us quantitatively measure change induced muscle vivo during session. By analyzing mechanical instead electrical signals, i.e., EMG, corticospinal contributions magnetic accurately measured after appropriate procedures being applied restrained under anesthesia.
